As you may know, the apprenticeship program has gone back to five years, in length this year. This was, presented and subsequently approved by the JATC, at my recommendation, after much deliberation with the Training Director. This, while maybe upsetting to some, was determined to be, in the best interest of the program and its attendees. There can be no doubt, that as an institution we are not without fault, but are giving every effort to providing the type of education the industry demands. Everyone knows that competition is tough on our contractors. Especially, when work is slow, as people are willing to do electrical work for "a buck and a truck". The IBEW has seen times like this before and the very thing that continues to set us apart from the rest is the "Knowledge, Skill, and Attitude" set we bring to the job. This is afforded to our apprentices through our program. It consists of nearly 9000hrs of education. While, approximately 1000hrs comes from the classroom, 8000hrs are had on the job. So I ask you, who are the 1st through 5th year instructors?...You are! As one instructor to another...Thank you!...sincerely. You make the difference in the way an apprentice will become in the IBEW's future. Thanks for taking the time to make members across the IBEW proud to associate themselves as such. P.S. - As for all you recent grads of the program...guess who's the teacher is now?...you are!...so deflate those egos, get to work, and show 'em how it's done. - Jay |
